"In the Shadow of the Blade" www.intheshadowoftheblade.com

This report is from Area Vice President Ben Powell Jr.  He was one of the planners for the Shadow project in our area and a proud crewmember during the Huey's brief visit in Florida.

"The initial liftoff ceremony at Ft. Rucker was great.  Joe Galloway, who co-authored 'We Were Soldiers Once - and Young' with Hal Moore, was the featured speaker both at the reception at the museum on Tuesday night and at the liftoff.  As soon as the Huey and the 'modern helicopters' did their fly-by, my son drove me to Eglin Air Force Base.  There I boarded the helicopter and flew the leg from Eglin to Tallahassee.  WOW!!! What a thrill.  I had not flown a UH-1 in 28 years, but it was like riding a bicycle. I was able to maintain altitude plus or minus 200 feet and the airspeed within 10 knots, found my way to Tallahassee Regional Airport, and shot the approach.  The biggest thrill was hovering to the parking spot.  I think with a little practice I could really fly one of those things again."

Arrowhead is following the flight and posting new information daily on the website, so we all can follow along with the flight.
